Drug Importing and Exporting

Drug Importing and Exporting

Transporting a banned narcotic substance into or out of a country is illegal. Drug Importing means to bring in, and Drug Exporting means to arrange shipments out of a country. Even if you did not carry the drugs in/out on your person, you can still be liable for a Drug Importing or Drug Exporting offence. Even if you were not present when these drugs entered or exited a country, you can still be liable.

To establish a guilty charge of Drug Importing/Exporting the Prosecutor must prove that the accused had actual knowledge of the drugs, along with some power of authority over the drugs.

The amount of jail time if convicting of Drug Importing/Exporting depends on the type of drug and the quantity seized. This charge is extremely serious. For example, if someone is caught importing a narcotic such as cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, they could be facing a sentence of life in jail.

East Law has extensive experience working on drug offence cases. We understand that the bigger the drug operation, the more moving parts there are to that operation, which means it becomes more difficult for the Crown to prove one had knowledge and control over said drugs.

A serious charge like Drug Importing or Exporting needs to be addressed with these sorts of strategies in mind.
