Robbery

Robbery

Robbery is committing a theft that involves violence, or the threat of violence. Because of the violence involved and the victim’s being subject to physical harm or intimidation, it is a more serious offence. Robberies can be committed with or without a weapon and the weapon doesn’t have to be real.

This largely depends on the circumstances of each case. Sentences vary widely depending on the amount stolen, the violence used to physically harm, lasting damage, whether weapons were used etc. The more serious Robberies can go to the maximum sentence of life in jail. If a firearm is involved the Courts treat it more seriously and a jail sentence is imposed.

Often Robberies are committed where the accused has taken steps to hide his or her’s identity. In this regard, how can the Prosecution be sure they have arrested the right person? At East Law, we have extensive experience in attacking the credibility and liability of the Prosecutions identification evidence.
