Utter Threats

Utter Threats

Angry discourse between people can occur without criminality. However, heated exchanges can escalate into illegal actions. Threats are often based on circumstances and the perception of the threat. A threat is a statement that communicates an intent to commit bodily harm or death. If the complainant to whom these threats/statements were made has reasonable belief they can be carried out, then there are grounds to make criminal charges and convictions for Uttering Threats.

A threat does not need to be made face to face. It can be via phone, text, email, social media platforms including direct messaging, or regular mail. Context is important in whether the statements were to be taken seriously or intended to intimidate.

A criminal record can change your life from employability to freedoms enjoyed such as travel. It is important to stand up for and protect your rights. Utter Threats cases can be one by showing the Court the Complainant did not reasonably think the threat could be carried out.
